International Water Stewardship Standard v. 2.0

This document contains the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Standard and is a key document in the AWS Standard System. The objective of the AWS Standard is to drive water stewardship, defined as: use of water that is socially and culturally equitable, environmentally sustainable and economically beneficial. The standard provides a methodology and comprehensive glossary.

Mapping our Water Footprint:  Example - GSK

GSK is a global biopharma company committed to a net zero, nature positive, healthier planet, and has set ambitious climate and nature goals for 2030 and 2045, aligned with TNFD and SBTN. Targets include: water stewardship, usage, and quality. Using water foot printing, GSK has reduced overall water use in operations by 24%, and by 11% for sites in high water-stressed regions. This is an example presented by A4S on how one company is meeting the challenges of reducing their water footprint. 

The Water Footprint Assessment Manual – Setting the Global Standard

This book contains the global standard for ‘water footprint assessment’ as developed and maintained by the Water Footprint Network (WFN). It covers a comprehensive set of definitions and methods for water footprint accounting. It shows how water footprints are calculated for individual processes and products, as well as for consumers, nations and businesses. It also includes methods for water footprint sustainability assessment and a library of water footprint response options.
